JENNY HENZELL
Multimedia Artist

After training as a Primary School teacher I spent nearly a decade teaching. While this work was often rewarding and creative, I eventually needed to use the art skills I had been ignoring for too long. So I went in search of what that might mean for me. It has gradually led me to where I am today, a professional jewellery maker and emerging artist.

My artwork is not usually conceptual, instead I tend to visualize an image, then if I feel excited about it, I try to create something that lives up to the picture in my head. Sometimes it is just a colour combination that makes me want to play.

I’ve come to realize that I am usually attracted to images from nature, and am often interested in evoking that feel in my work. I work a lot in glass and fabric which are very versatile and have an incredible range of colours and textures.

I love fine detail and my work is usually made from lots of small elements that contribute to a larger picture. I often recycle objects because I really like the idea that my work not only tells its own story but contains pieces that already have a story.

The search for my art identity is ongoing and I am really loving the journey.
