After completing her undergraduate degree in Film and Television Production at QUT in Brisbane, Phoebe Hart went on to be a finalist in the ABC’s race around the world. Next, she produced a documentary about travelling around Tasmania with four other ex-racers. The Full Kombi screened as both a prime-time half hour and an 'uncensored' full hour late night on the ABC. To date, Phoebe has produced a plethora of ABC mini-documentaries for Recovery, Fly TV and George Negus Tonight.
Continuing in the vein of factual television, Phoebe joined Network Ten’s top rating children’s program Totally Wild, which is on-sold to over 30 countries around the world. After two years of Totally Wild fun, Phoebe went on to work with Ten’s new documentary department as a researcher, writer, coordinator and producer. Her projects include Future Farming, Living Smarter (about sustainable housing), and The Tarkine – all of which have drawn large audiences.
Phoebe continually produces documentaries for community organisations and for inclusion in film festivals, and works as a freelance producer and director regularly. Her acclaimed mini-doc Dumpster Divers screened at the 2004 Other Worlds Are Breathing Film Festival at the World Social Forum (WSF) in India. Traje screened at the 2005 WSF in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and the Latin American Film Festival in Atlanta, USA. In 2005, Phoebe commenced a scholarship-funded PhD project at QUT's new Creative Industries Precinct. She directed a primetime four-part documentary series on the state of higher education in Australia for SBS (broadcast in March 2008) called Downunder Grads, and recently completed a half-hour documentary for ABC1 on a group of women who play the rough-and-tumble sport of roller derby entitled Roller Derby Dolls. She is a member of the Australian Directors Guild.
Phoebe Hart has a passion for all that is beautiful in the world and has a strong sense of social justice. She has travelled, lived, worked and studied in many parts of the globe, from the developed world (Germany and United Kingdom) to the majority world (Nepal and Guatemala).
